Reception Transition 2020
Hello everyone! We are very excited to have you back in school, some of you for the very first time! We know that lots of you are a little worried about coming to school after such a long time at home, but we can’t wait to have fun playing and learning with you, and helping you to make new friends!

Important Times to Remember
. As discussed in our transition meeting in July, the first week in Reception will be different to the rest of the year:
- Tuesday 8th September – 8.30 – 12.00 (no dinner in school).
- Wednesday 9th September – 8.30 – 12.30 (dinner in school).
- Thursday 10th September onwards – 8.30 – 3.15 (full day).
. School starts at 8.30am every day.
. To access the classroom, you will need to enter through the new Reception gate. You can access this by coming through the entrance on Bromley. A member of staff will be stood at the gate to welcome you and show your child into class.

. Unfortunately, due to current health and safety issues, parents are not allowed on site unless agreed with a member of school management. Please try to encourage your child to enter through the Reception gate independently. We understand that this will be difficult at first, but we will be there to help every step of the way.
. Reception’s school day finishes at 3.15pm. Please wait at the same Reception gate that you come through in the morning. A member of staff will be there to hand your child over to you. Please be patient. With current restrictions, this may take longer than usual.
Our Classroom
For those of you who are familiar with the school building, Reception has now moved to the room where Nursery used to be. Nursery is now in the previous Reception classroom.
In Reception, our classroom is extremely important! We use it throughout the day to help us to play and learn. Our classroom has lots of areas to help you access the different areas of your learning.

Our School Day
Every day in Reception is a little bit different. We have a board with all the information that the children will need for each day, including a visual timetable.

Throughout the school week, your child will have daily Phonics and handwriting lessons. They will also have multiple English, Maths and Topic lessons throughout the week. Once a week, your child will take part in a PE, Music and ICT lesson amongst other lessons. We aim to provide the children with a broad range of experiences and learning opportunities, and the lessons we provide help us to do this.
Learning in September
Maths
When we return in September, we will be focussing on recognising numbers to five, and representing these in different ways.
English
In our English lessons, we will be reading the story of Funnybones by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. We will be putting ideas and activities on the website that you can do at home to enjoy the story with your child.
In our Phonics lessons, we will be starting to learn our phase 2 letter sounds. We will be sending home activities to practise these sounds with your child.
We will also begin to learn how to hold a pencil correctly and start to form some letters correctly in our Kinetic Letters handwriting lessons.
Topic
Our Topic in September will be ‘All About Me’. We will be learning about different homes and families, what makes us unique, our local area and people that help us in our lives. As with Maths and English, there will be activities on the school website for you to do at home with your child if you choose to.
We hope you have found this document useful and informative about what to expect when your child returns to school. We are looking forward to seeing you all on the 8th!
Take care and see you soon.
