!Week beginning 11th January

This half term we shall be working on multiplication and division. This week we shall be working on our 2,5 and 10 times tables.  There are games on the ‘2do’ section of Purple Mash and of course, TTRS has work on these tables too.

We need to be able to count in 2s,5s and 10s and we need to be able to use the correct symbols in calculations too.  There are lots of ways we can practise: counting coins, counting fingers and toes, making up dances or just joining in with online songs like we do in class – some of our favourites are Jack Hartmann.  I was also going to introduce the class to BBC supermovers this term.

Monday:

To warm your brains up...

Have a think: I have 10p in my pocket. Make a list of all of the different ways I could make this total.

Today we shall be looking at arrays.

Video Introduction

Tasks today:

Blue Group: use 10 counters, pennies, buttons, smarties or whatever you wish.  What are the four arrays you could make? Can you draw them?

Green Group: Use 20 counters, pennies, buttons, smarties or whatever you wish.  What arrays can you make? Draw them. Clue: there are 6 different possibilities.

Purple Group: Use 16 counters, pennies, smarties or whatever you wish. What arrays can you make? Draw them.

Don't forget to submit your pictures of your arrays!

If you’re still not sure about arrays watch this.

Or if you want more practise, try this.

Tuesday:

To warm your brains up:

look at these numbers : 5,15,50,10.  Which is the odd one out and why? Ask a grow up - did they choose the same answer?

We are continuing to work on arrays today - you will need paper, ruler and coloured pencils or crayons if possible.

Don't forget to submit your pictures of your arrays!

Wednesday:

To warm your brains up: How would you convince me that two 5p coins is the same as one 10p coin?

Introduction

So, as you complete your tasks today remember that an array must have an equal amount in each group.

For today's activity ideally you can print off the sheet but it's absolutely fine to draw the arrays yourself on paper.

Thursday:

To warm your brains up: 1,3,5,7 ... What comes next? How do you know?  Explain the sequence.

Introduction

Instead of printing out the sheets today, why not just talk to a grown up about your answers and then drop me a message to let me know how you got on!

Today's tasks:

Purple Group

Friday:

To warm your brains up: Is the following statement always, sometimes or never true? Give a reason for your answer.

When you add 10 to a number the answer will be a multiple of 10 (that means it will be in your ten times table).

Today's tasks are problem solving activities.  That means you need to use what you have learnt about multiplication and arrays to help solve the problem.  You can draw the animals, use letters, dots, anything that will help you to visualise the problem!

Farmer Archie has sheep, chickens and cows on his farm.

Blue Group: If there are 20 legs altogether what combination of animals might he have?

Green Group: If there are 40 legs altogether what combination of animals might he have?

Purple Group: If there are 10 animals altogether, how many legs might there be?

Don't forget to submit your work for me to check!
